Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is there any registration required to attend the workshops?
No registration is required. (But, it is helpful for us if you can register at the link above.) Attendees can show up at the workshop location. Sign-in sheets will be available to record attendance.

  • Are the workshops available online or via Zoom?
The workshops are generally conducted in person, and each session is recorded and posted on the law library’s website for later viewing. New: there will be four live Zoom sessions offered.  Keeping your camera on during live virtual sessions counts toward the Practice Skills Certification. (Previous workshop recordings are available here.)

  • What happens if I miss a workshop? Can I still earn the Library Certification?
You can still earn the certificate if you attend 5 of the 9 workshops offered. Recordings of missed workshops are available on the website, but viewing them does not count toward the attendance requirement.

  • How long after a session will the recording be available on the website?
Recordings are typically posted on this page a few days after the workshop. The recordings from the previous semester will be moved to the Materials from Previous Training Sessions page at the end beginning of the next semester.

  • Can I attend a mix of Fall and Spring workshops to earn the certification?
No, the certification requires attendance of 5 workshops within the same series (either Fall or Spring). Watching recorded content or attending across different series does not fulfill the requirement.

  • Policy on Recordings and Certification Credit
Recordings are not a substitute for live attendance and will not count toward earning the certificate. Certification credit requires real-time participation in a scheduled workshop, either in person or during the live Zoom sessions (camera must be on).

  • How can I track how many workshops I have attended?
Please feel free to send an email to Elaine Tornes Blanco to check your attendance record.

  • Can I attend workshops towards the end of the series and still be eligible for the Library-Certified Research Scholar Certification?
Yes, as long as you attend 5 workshops in the series, you will be eligible for the Library-Certified Research Scholar Certification. The certificates are ready for pick-up shortly after the Fall semester concludes.

  • Can I receive a digital version of the certificate to post on LinkedIn?
The certificate is only available in print. However, you can scan and upload the printed certificate as media on LinkedIn.

  • Are LLM students eligible to attend the workshops?
LLM students are welcome to attend the workshops.
